Behind the Scenes of “Tea Time” – Crafting the Ultimate Rock Star Illusion

Working on Tea Time (2023) was an exciting challenge, blending glam rock aesthetics with subtle character storytelling through makeup and SFX. From smoky stage looks to the raw, unfiltered exhaustion of a touring band, every detail helped shape the emotional journey of the characters.

In the final episode, a jaw-dropping plot twist revealed that one of the main characters was actually a famous person in disguise all along. To pull off this illusion seamlessly, we used a combination of a wig, beard, and strategic makeup techniques to completely alter the actor’s appearance. The challenge was to ensure that throughout the series, the disguise looked natural yet subtly different—just enough to leave subconscious hints for sharp-eyed viewers. When the final reveal happened, it had to be dramatic, believable, and unforgettable.

Beyond the grand reveal, every day my team and I worked on makeup for eight actors, handling everything from glam rock transformations to high-impact SFX. We even dyed hair pink for one of the characters and made a famous actor unrecognizable until the last episode, adding an extra layer of surprise to the finale.
